• Edward Paget •Scoliosis Expert Did you know your feet could be affecting your spine?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yup, that’s right. The feet contain 22 bones and are highly adaptable to the surface we stand on. The movement in the feet sets up a chain reaction (@garywynngray) that travels up the body. This chain reaction, when working properly, stimulates the muscles in the lower leg, thigh and hips all to work in the correct way at the correct time. If, however, the foot is stiff, doesn’t move well, or just weak it won’t do that.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Improper foot movement will in turn cause faulty movements into the spine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Key points: • keep all the pressure on the base of your big toe. • as you drive your knee forwards and inwards, imagine you are trying to collapse the arch of the foot completely. This movement is called pronation. • keep your heel off the ground.
• as you straighten your leg lift the arch up while still keeping pressure on your big toe. This movement is called supination. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do the movement 10 or 15 times, or till you feel your foot loosen up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
